Due to the ongoing pandemic, we were all incredibly disappointed when it was announced that UK Games Expo was cancelled and we all waited with baited breath for what wonders Virtually Expo would bring to the gaming world – and what a fantastic weekend it was! After many weeks of planning and build-up, Virtually Expo came and went in the roll of a dice.
Our (virtual) stand was brimming with demos of great games, such as Taverns of Tiefenthal, 3 Things and Dungeon Drop – there was something for everyone! Master Word, the ingenious new release from Scorpion Masque, was also demoed for the first time, and received great reactions from those that played the challenging word-based deduction game.
On the IELLO stand, Break the Code and Ishtar took centre stage, with King of Tokyo also being demoed throughout the weekend. Players that took part in the King of Tokyo demo also had the chance to get their hands on the exclusive UK limited edition promo monster, Cy-Gull – the rampaging cyborg seagull with a penchant for fish and chips!
Of course, it wouldn’t have been a UK Games Expo, without the Judge’s and People’s Choice Awards, which were announced at the end of the show weekend on Sunday.
We had six games in the running:
- Best Abstract Game: Gembatan (MindWare)
- Best Euro-Style Board Game: Taverns of Tiefenthal (Schmidt Spiele)
- Best Board Game (Strategic): Ishtar (IELLO)
- Best Card Game (Strategic): Break the Code (IELLO)
- Best New Dice Game: Kingdomino Duel (Blue Orange)
- Best Party Game: 3 Things (MindWare)
Gembatan, Ishtar and Kingdomino Duel all won the Judge’s Choice Awards in their respective cataegories! We are all extremely proud and delighted here at Coiledspring Games with all our nominated and award-winning games – it was an amazing way to end what was an impressive and unique event!
We’d like to thank the UKGE team and the gaming community who continue to support us – we hope you all had a great weekend at our stand and we hope to see you all again next year, whether that’s virtually or in person!
