Mathew Cartwright our Marketing Assistant is front and centre for this month’s spotlight and he has selected some fantastic board games for us to dive into! There were many contenders for Mat’s list, but he has narrowed his selection down to five top games that have made it to his table.
Without further ado, we hand over to Mat!
This was one of the very first games I played when I joined Coiledspring and I instantly fell in love with how fun and intuitive it is to play.
Bandido, like all Helvetiq games, is beautifully designed and illustrated. The concept is simple: team up to stop Bandido escaping from his prison cell by laying cards to block the underground tunnels he has created.
Last year, at Virtually Expo I was tasked demoing Gembatan. I was pleasantly surprised to find the game is wonderfully straightforward and a joy to demo. I’ve actually become the resident Gembatan expert in the office!
Gembatan is a great tile laying game where you score points by aligning the amulet tiles and coloured gems. Simple as that!
I played Forbidden Sky for the first time on an Instagram Live charity event with Jim, from ‘What Board Game’ and it was the best way to enjoy and learn the game, as it’s quite dramatic!
The team mission is to build a circuit around a mysterious floating platform in the sky to launch a rocket and escape before you are struck by lightning or blown off into the depths! What is so cool about this game is that you build an ACTUAL live circuit, which lights up the rocket if successfully connected – this really adds another level to the gaming experience!
Kingdomino is my all-time favourite game from our range!
This domino inspired game packs so much strategy in many different elements. You must consider what tile you want next, which then affects your turn order, which then affects where you want to place your territories around your castle. I’ve been crowned king a few times!
After almost a year of being a part of the Coiledspring team, I have only played Qwirkle recently and I was pleasantly surprised by how much strategy Qwirkle brought to my table!
I really enjoy how simple it is and how much it made me really think about the next tiles to lay down and even for the turn ahead of that. Plus, scoring and shouting QWIRKLE is very satisfying!
Let us know if any of Mat’s games have made it to your table!
