UK Games Expo 2023

Over the weekend of 2nd – 4th June, Coiledspring brought board game magic to UK Games Expo at the NEC in Birmingham! With THREE preview games, TWO new release games and ONE giant King of Tokyo we were all set to welcome everyone to the stand to play!

We had so much fun over the weekend demoing games, chatting to everyone who stopped by the stand, and meeting some new faces. Here are some of the things we got up to!

Welcome to the Jungle!

Everyone had the chance to enter the jungle on the Coiledspring stand! Our cosy, vine covered nature area provided a leisurely space to try games. The jungle housed preview games Moon River, and the extremely popular…FORBIDDEN JUNGLE. This game was never before seen in the UK and had people lining up just to get a look at the aliens, jungle, and everything else this game entailed. We look forward to Forbidden Jungle, the fourth in the forbidden series, coming to shelves around November this year.

Our final preview product was the super delicious, Spin Sum for Dim Sum! Containing a spin table, an amazingly squishy bun and similar gameplay to its predecessor, Sushi Go, this game was also very popular among families.

GIANT Board Game?… Yes please!

GIANT King of Tokyo resurfaced this year much to the delight of King of Tokyo fans! A combination of life-sized monsters, huge dice and oversized cards, stopped players in their tracks. This life-sized game created a lot of enjoyment for everyone who stopped by. We were equally impressed by anyone who managed to roll six dice at the same time!

Award Winners!

Three games from our range picked up prestigious UKGE Awards this year! New Eden, the futuristic game set in the depths of the ocean, won the Judges Choice for Best Board Game. The fantastic flip and write, Next Station London picked up the Judges Choice award for Best Family Game and the Living Forest Expansion – Kodama won People’s Choice Best Expansion. We are proud to have these great games in our range!

This year we ran three tournaments! Entrants into the King of Tokyo Tournament were in to win King of Monster Island, plus pick up some exclusive goodies, including the brand-new British Monster 2.0 – Precipitator! A sold-out Unmatched tournament saw entrants battling it out with various heroes for the ultimate title. Prizes included the brand new For King and Country title, Teen Spirit and Houdini vs Genie, plus limited edition acrylic sidekicks!

We also teamed up with our friends in the Let’s Play Zone, Imagination Gaming, to run a Kingdomino tournament. Those who gained the highest score (by building the most valuable kingdom) each day won a Blue Orange prize bundle!

Little did we know this would be the most successful UKGE yet, with the most attendees ever over the weekend! We are hugely grateful to UK Games Expo for delivering such a fantastic event, we already can’t wait until next year.

If you have any photos, or feedback from UKGE, do remember to tag us on social media, we would love to see them!
