Anomia

Anomia: [uh-NO-mee-uh] – Noun –

1) A problem with word finding or recall.

2) Chaos.

3) The game where common knowledge becomes uncommonly fun!

What’s in the box?

  • Two decks, each with 92 unique playing cards and eight wild cards

How to play:

Pick which card deck you want to play with and shuffle! Split into two piles to form the draw piles.

The first player draws a card from either pile and quickly flips it face up in front of them so everyone can see it.

Play continues clockwise until a match is found! When symbols on two players’ cards match, both players compete to be the first to call out a correct example of the person, place or thing on the opponent’s card. The winner takes the opponent’s card and forms a winning pile.

WATCH OUT! A new match may be revealed. Complete all possible matches before drawing new cards.

When a wild card is drawn, place it in between the two draw piles. Matches can now occur between the symbols on the wild card. This wild card remains in play until a new wild card is drawn. If you draw a wild card, you take another turn, after all challenges have been settled.

When there are no cards left in the draw piles, each player counts up their winning pile. The player with the most matches wins!

Bonus

Anomia has sold over one million copies and can be used in the classroom as a vocabulary builder!

Anomia 2.0

Welcome to Anomia 2.0! Introducing two brand new decks into the world of Anomia. Race to find matches, call out categories and test your brain among the chaos.

The game where common knowledge is STILL uncommonly fun!

What’s in the box?

  • Two decks (yellow and purple) of 92 cards
  • Eight wild cards

How to play:

Pick which card deck you want to play with and shuffle! Split into two piles and place in the middle of the table.

The first player draws a card from either pile and quickly flips it face up in front of them so everyone can see it, creating their own pile.

Play continues clockwise until a match between the symbols is found! When they match, both players compete to be the first to shout a correct example of the category on the opponent’s card. The winner takes the opponent’s card and forms a winning pile.

But WATCH OUT, as you win your opponents cards, a match may be revealed. Make sure you complete all possible matches before drawing new cards.

When a wild card is drawn, place it in between the two draw piles so everyone can see it. Matches can now occur between the symbols on the wild card. As well as the symbols themselves matching. This wild card remains in play until a new wild card is drawn.

When there are no cards left in the draw piles, each player counts up their winning pile. The player with the most cards in their pile, wins!

Word on the Street

Did you hear the Word on the Street? Get in the fast lane in this fun-fuelled race to claim 8 letter tiles faster than your opponents in this hilarious tug of words.

With over 400 category cards, you will become a wordsmith in no time!

What’s in the box?

  • 17 letter tiles
  • 216 category cards
  • One sand timer
  • One game board

How to play:

A player from the team on the street draws the first card from the card tray, places it on the table and reads the category aloud. As the card is drawn, the timer is flipped.

Players from the team on the street brainstorm words that fit the category printed on the category card. Team members may call out as many suggestions as they want, but they all must agree on one word that fits the category before time runs out.

Before the time runs out, one player from the team on the street moves the letter tiles for the selected word.

When the time runs out, a player from the opposing team says “stop” and the team on the street must immediately stop moving letter tiles. That teams turn ends and the category card is placed in the back of the card tray.

The opposing team becomes the new team on the street and begins the process again.

The first team to capture eight letter tiles to their side of the street wins – it’s as simple as that!

Bonus!

Word on the Street has two extra gameplay modes – quick-play and a family mode designed for younger players.
